is there a correlated upward trend in series A / B funding in the past few years that would support the delayed funding hypothesis? I've noticed a few massive later rounds in the French startup ecosystem as of late but it's only a few data points

There's an increase in Series A / B in Europe, but it doesn't offset the decline in seed deals. Also, in Asia and globally (cf. the graphs) the number of "early-stage" (i.e., A & B) deals have also been flat/decreasing since 2018! I updated the article to add another assumption, suggested by some on Twitter: that the decline may be due to the limited resources of the press + founders who don't care to announce their deals anymore in the press. It makes sense but I'm skeptical because you can still announce on your blog/Twitter/LinkedIn and then those who write these reports would add your deal to their database (if they do their job!!!). So... I still don't understand...
