the state of flow actually presents most of the benefits of meditation (impact on beta waves in the brains is quite similar) and might be easier to tap for non-practitioners

it can be triggered by things like video games, coding, exercise, etc.

Excellent point! Meditation and activities that put you in a state of flow may all build your cognitive reserve ( https://www.adssx.com/p/how-to-build-your-cognitive-reserve ).

I see that as: you "exercise" your brain => better mental health, in the same way, that exercising muscles => better physical health?
